OUGD502 - Book Binding Workshops
To advance my practice in studio brief 1 of OUGD504, I attended a book binding workshop to further develop my skill in binding. In this workshop I learned the basics of case binding, and segment stitch binding. These two binds were fundamentally important to studio brief 1 as it informed the binding technique to the publication that was created.
To me, the more manual processes are preferred and this workshop advanced my skills in these processes. It not only further developed the work in studio brief 1, it will inform more briefs that I undertake in the future. This workshop was scheduled for the purpose of developing the basic skills to explore the bind methods further within my own practice. As seen bellow I perfected the segment stitch bind and glued the spine before finishing it with a soft, case bound cover. This final development is what informed the brief and how the publication was finished. More research into professional binding ensured I had a professional understanding of commercial binds and finishes.
