OUGD602 - The Last Lecture

Recently I watched a TED talk by Randy Pausch called the Last Lecture. He gave this talk because it is the last lecture he gave before he passed away from cancer. This lecture focusses on the ideal way to live your life. It was massively inspirational to listen to and has made me think a lot more about the way I live my life and what I want to achieve.

In this talk, Pausch looks at how brick walls are there for a reason, whenever a problem arrives they are there to prove how much you want something, because if you really want it you can break through this brick wall. If it stops you then you don't really want it. He advises that you always have fun whatever it is you do and to work and play well with everyone. In order to lead a good life you should get along with everyone as well as apologise properly when you do something wrong. There are three stages to an apology, 'I'm sorry', 'it was my fault', 'how do I fix it'. The last part of the apology is where the sincerity lies. Pausch also discusses how importance patience is, as not everything comes instantly. And lastly, it is important to stop complaining and just work harder. You won't get anywhere from just complaining about it and can only solve your problems if you work hard at it.

This talk has made me think about my end goal after graduation as where I want to work in the industry won't be easy to get into, however living life this way and working hard will make me achieve what it is that I want. This talk has highlighted the importance of optimism.
