OUGD602 - Creative Convos - Robot Food

Chris Shuttleworth and Eve Warren from Robot Food came in to talk about their studio and how they approach design briefs. Both of them are Leeds Arts University graduates so it was positive to see how far they had come since graduation.

They had two pieces of advice for approaching design briefs, the first wast to simplify and amplify.

- Shout about the unique selling point of a product
- Use the tone of voice to bring a brand personality to life
- Keep the design simple and memorable

Following these three steps can improve the design dramatically and make it successful. The example they showed these three steps in place is the Seabrooks crips packaging.

They also demonstrated how its possible to make a brand different and stand out. In order to make a successful product, you must do something different. The CO-OP own brand nappies was an example where this technique was practiced.

- Identify a consumer who isn't being catered for
- Design for that consumer and category
- Introduce unexpected style into stagnant categories

The final advice they gave was to keep pushing minimal design that will be memorable and timeless, and to design for the audience you are trying to entice. The agency were also looking for a graphic design intern, so Chris and Eve gave us their email to send CV and portfolios.
