Since first year I have been running a photography feature page called @minolta.film. I am planning on starting frequent Instagram takeovers. As I have no experience in this, I asked for some advice on administrating them. Not only is this advice incredibly useful for this project, it is useful for my own social media and marketing strategies that I can put into practice.
Recently I had been approached by a group of American students who are going to trek the Amazon and asked for support. There was no chance of financial support, which is why I offered to give them a chance to take part in an Instagram takeover.

His first set of advice included:
- Do not give them password the password to the account, it is safer to control yourself.
- Use third party app Buffer to schedule content, as it makes the process a lot easier.
- Always plan a takeover three weeks in advance so the content will always be consistent.
- The Instagram feed is the most valuable platform, so always direct traffic back to the feed.
- Shorten links using bit.ly
He suggested writing all the specifications needed for posts and video (mp4), down in a document, so that it can be sent to anyone involved in a takeover. This involves:
To make the content unique from the rest, it is a good idea to plan how the feed grid will appear. Elements that break up content can include an introduction post or posts. This can be done with an opener and/or a closing post. To decided how best to do this, look at themes used by SZ Mag, Intern and any other Instagram feed that features takeovers.

- Set parameters for the takeover, for example, a minimum of six posts with a style choice will create a block of content on Instagram and differentiate from the rest of the content.
- Include maximum dimensions for Instagram posts in aspect ratio so there is no need to edit the owners photography. Use this site for reference: dustn.tv/instagram sizes/
- Use We Transfer to transfer content in a 'zip' format
- Ask them to write captions and include any tags they want included on the posts.

For stories, it will be essential to set up template that can be re-used (750x1334 format) and I might want to use the Video Show app.
