Recently I have been interested in the production of hair products. Last year I designed and produced my own hair product packaging as an enticement technique for clients to see my work in action. It communicated my style of work and work ethos. However the product inside was a bought product just to demonstrate its function.
This year I want to define my concept and produce my own product and brand it as it's own line of product. This, in turn, will demonstrate not only my design skill and ethos, but demonstrate my skill in branding, marketing and production. It will demonstrate a wide range of professional skills that clients will be looking for.
On doing a little research into this, I got in contact with American product line Lockhart's Authentic Grooming. Although they do not sell to the UK, they were happy to answer questions about the production of home brewed hair pomades. Home brewed products are becoming increasingly popular and can range from hair products to candles.
Lockhart's were extremely helpful and answered my questions about production. Creating a working hair product will make my concept more successful and they advised me to start simple with 2 or 3 ingredients and work from there to make a bespoke recipe that is unique to the brand. It is best to create a good base then experiment with this once that has been established. They also spoke to me about their products which are made in labs which can be produced when the original products start to make money. They also gave me advice about adding colours and scent.
Creating both simple pomades or candles will make my concept so much more successful and will intrigue clients and make them want to employ me.
