Last year I didn't have the knowledge to create my own hair pomade, however, after talking to Lockhart's, I have developed a knowledge in developing my own. It would also suit my identity to produce candles too. I am a massive fan of candles and it would suit those who aren't so into hair products. I have been watching video tutorials and reading up online on the process of producing both of these products.
After deciding on producing these, I started to develop some jar labels from the business card branding to ensure the identity is strong throughout all of my branding products. It was relatively simple to develop it from my existing identity and the new identity developed on the business cards. A variety of concepts were created that continued the overall traditional style that I want to communicate.
However, many of them weren't functional or legible and many looked too busy. A clean simple design proved effective with the business cards and display clearly the information I wanted and communicated the concept. Some label designs were developed to suit the business cards and keep the identity consistent.
Of these designs, after some feedback it was decided that it was important to keep them clear, simple and to the point. Many felt that small detailing distracted from the information and that it looked less professional.
After a final design was decided upon, they were adapted to suit both the candle and pomade products.
To print these, once again recycled stocks were chosen, this time a different colour for each the pomade and the candle. The designs were cut into lino like the previous identity and mono printed. This time, to keep the printing process efficient, as was done with the business cards, the positives from the mono print were printed with screen printing.
This technique was effective and prevented excess waste of paper and saved on time. However, the ink did not print a dark navy on the lighter stock which is something I would have to ensure next time. I am happy with the way both print methods turned out and would be happy to use both to print more as they continue the effect my identity had last year.
