OUGD602 - The House of Minilima

During the first weekend on my placement, I took advantage of being located in London. I spent the day exploring and checking out galleries, including The Welcome Collection and The Design Museum. I also went to The House of Minilima, a small exhibition displaying work designed for the Harry Potter franchise.

Film is a passion I have had for a long time, and in the last couple of years I have taken an interested to in design in film, writing about it in my Context of Practice essay and looking into the industry and attempting to grow my network. I thought that this small exhibition space would influence me or give me a little more knowledge on design and art direction in film.

The space exhibited a lot of printed designs, such as The Daily Prophet, and spell books and wanted posters that are used in the films. It was interesting to see each piece out of context where I could notice the attention to detail. It demonstrated the quality that can be achieved to create a fictional world in film and I could see the potential of what I can achieve in this industry.

The exhibition space also took advantage of being located in a small building. It curated the work appropriate to the genre and the films. Using small windy stair cases and setting the interior to look like a set in the movie it was as visually engaging as the work itself, demonstrating the potential of curation.
