OUGD402 - Self Branding Discussion

In this lesson I joined groups to discuss my ideas, and theirs of how I was going to self brand myself and promote myself. Initially my idea of where I wanted to go with my design was on a classy organic style of design and i came across the distinguished gentleman. I then looked more into what styles of design I would enjoy and I discovered I love packaging design. I looked more into packaging design and more into the distinguished gentleman style in many different recourses from film, television to the internet to supermarkets and bars. I now have an idea of what style of design I want to head for and where I would be interested in working in the industry.

In this task I discussed my idea to several groups who all really liked my idea: instead of sending a business card out I want to send out a small box containing a razor, shaving soap, a shaving soap brush and some hair product. A lifestyle that is well connected with the distinguished gentleman is the barber lifestyle which is why I want to produce this style of promotion. I want to design and brand the products inside which will also work as self branding for myself. This will display my skills and style in product branding.

My groups really liked this idea and helped me grow it further. I was given names for it such as "The Gentleman's Care Package". I was recommended to look into current brands of hair product such as Uppercut and I could create illustrations for my products not just logos.

To grow this idea I will look more into hair product packaging to inspire me to create my own and so I know what I want it to look like.

I also thought of the idea of making a short stop motion video of the products dancing to jazz music which would give possible clients even more of an idea of the style of graphics and style of products i want to design for as well as an idea of what my design will be like.
