OUGD402 - Typesetting Induction

As part of my process inductions I was taught how to use the letterpress. This process involves type setting led type and rolling ink onto them before placing them into the letterpress and printing my type onto the paper. This process is very interesting as there’s many different ways of using the letterpress and you can create different effects such as embossing, simple printing or you can use it to help foiling. This is a manual process that is often lost in digital design but I enjoyed learning this new skill and hope to be able to use it in my own designs in the future as it has a certain nostalgic style and brings a traditional quality to designs, which is what I hope to do.

The print I produced was a comical quote that I printed using Times typeface and red ink.
