OUGD502 - Film Presentation

To practice presentation skills, on a regular basis I will be practicing presenting on a range of topics. The latest task was to present the plot of a chosen film. In a small group we presented for only a minute and a half and gave feedback after each presentation. From this activity I learned a lot about positive presentation techniques. My own presentation used stills from the film which I felt was more engaging than including text.

From this exercise, it was established that humour was key to keeping an audience engaged. To keep an audience engaged, engaging images can benefit as well as using gifs which are more engaging than stills. Moving gifs will keep the audiences eyes on the presentation. Good visualisation pairs well with a humorous use of language. It can also be important to consider the layout of presentations as the white space around photos will make the audience's eyes focus on image. To add even more humour depending on the seriousness of the presentation, a funny use of stock transitions can be engaging.

The tone presented can be a massive factor to the engagement of an audience. A passionate and knowledgable speech is more engaging. Including a personal touch can add to the effect of the presentation. Having a personality come through in the presentation style will hugely effect the audiences engagement. Most importantly, having a clear structure in the presentation with a start, middle and end will help the audience understand where they are and not have initial responses of grief if they see a 30 long slide show. These techniques I will continue in my presentation practice.
