OUGD602 - The Design Kids

The Design Kids is a network for students and graduates. By using talks across the country at different universities and colleges, as well as an online resource, TDK introduces networking and gives advice on how to grow your own as well as helping to create contact with students and studios. TDK came in to talk to us about networking and how to achieve your end goal.

Frankie Ratford, the director of TDK came in and gave us activities that would help to improve our CV's and improve our networks. To improve a CV, Frankie suggested we note down our best qualities and hobbies and suggested to include any design competition entries which would attract studios.

Frankie also introduced the concept of ikigai. This Japanese concept is the idea of findingone's worthwhile and that being a part of your everyday life. This means that your occupation would be your vocation, something you enjoy and live for. To find this yourself, you can fill out a Venn diagram.

Both the CV advice and introduction to ikigai was useful now that I am concentrating more and more on what to do after graduation and it has helped to push myself in the right direction that I want to be heading to.
